RESISTORS
Resistive elements have a subtle but very recognizable sound signature. When used in numbers their combined effect can be very decisive for a project. Their price and technology can't be analogous to their performance if they aren't used where they should be. A very ordinary priced type can have the tonality that a certain application or component needs. We recommend the following types.
DALE 0,75W. Our favorite budget resistor. It sounds clear with body and no detail masking. It has the kind of meaty sound that escapes most metal film types and can transform thin sounding solid state gear. Colour coded with 1% tolerance and 40ppm temperature coefficient.
Minimum order: 10 pieces per value. 10 pieces price (EURO) 1,83
VITROHM 0,25W. Clear and detailed but not as warm and full. Better suited to thick sounding circuits.1% 50 ppm TC and very cheap. They outperform normal metal films by far. Colour coded.
Minimum order: 10 pieces in mixed values. 10 mixed pieces price (EURO) 0,46
ROEDERSTEIN 0,25W. Very pure and balanced, neutral with no harshness. They seriously outperform Holcos. Use them in relaxed circuits where extra detail and less coloration can be realized with no brightness penalty. The 0,1% type is even purer and we recommend it for RIAA, DACS, feedback loops and loading in preamps and amps.
0,5% 50ppm TC.10 pieces per value minimum order. Price each (EURO) 0,76 0,1% 15ppm TC. 5 pieces per value minimum order. Price each (EURO) 2,44
BECKMAN INDUSTRIAL 10W thick film non inductive planar power resistors. We have been searching for a long time to replace sand cast wirewound resistors from circuits and especially from loudspeaker crossovers. Although various pricey non inductive components sounded clearer we soon came to realize an acidic element to their sound that put us off. At last we found a power resistor that is much clearer than any other and has no sound of its own. The BECKMAN is printed on a ceramic surface and is laser trimmed. It has absolutely no inductance and sounds very fast with solid mids and airy highs. A must for any loudspeaker crossover. It is an excellent and very cost effective solution for high dissipation in valve circuits as well.
